She wants to achieve to achieve this by striving to comply with and heed to the professor's pieces of advice. The play conveys the message of secret things people are often not willing to communicate. Zoe and Jenine are two characters expected to have a perfect relationship. They both believe in scholarship through different perspectives on the same. Both are privileged intellectuals who are extremely smart. They both believe in inclusiveness and critical thinking. However, the two scholars concentrate on their differences. Jenine on one side is a liberal, a strong advocate of free speech and a feminist. Zoe, on the other hand, is an advocate of equality, and a millennial liberal. She is however tired of waiting for progress yet to come. There is, therefore, a dramatic confrontation between these two complicated women. The professor's views are consequently conflicting those of her student on various issues.Zoe argues that slavery prevented a second revolution since there were no potential revolutionaries against the economic and social order. However, she says the slaves revolted due to the brutality and oppression they were subjected to. Jenine does not agree with her views on this and instead accuses the professor of failing to document her thesis properly to prove and provide sufficient evidence from the primary sources. There is, therefore, a potential war between a student and her teacher. The two do not agree on a common idea over various issues. Student V. Teachers wars have there since the times of Socrates. The Niceties, therefore, provides an important analysis and overview of how detriments teacher/student conflicts can be to the development of both parties. The play draws the audience's attention on how a supportive mentor rather than a stern mentor can be critical in a student's academic development. However, it also exposes people inability to express their opinions and feelings publically. Jenine begs Zoe not to send the video recording her views on various ideas activities. She does not want the public to know her to stand about multiple issues in the society. This is a common activity in our cultures today. Many people are often afraid of voicing out the opinions publically. They instead hide and talk in private settings where many do not have access to their speeches. Jenine upon realizing that she had been recorded confesses her wrong thinking and begs Zoe not to send the recorded version of her opinion.She instead offers Zoe inducements and promises her any job she wants. Only to have Zoe throw away the recorded words.The current society is full of impunity. People often commit crimes and abominations and walk away with it. Corruption is another menace that has attacked the contemporary community. These two themes are extremely highlighted in the play. Janine offers her student inducements and promises her a job of her choice to lure her into disposing of the recorded video. This is a form of corruption and impunity. She does not want the public to know her racist acts. The professor is later suspended from her teaching responsibilities without pay. The play discusses other ills and issues pertinent to society.
